The 2025 Searching the Psyche Through Cinema film series investigates our relationship with food as a way of understanding ourselves.

Babette’s Feast (G, 102 min.) takes place in a 19th century Danish fishing village. Two pious sisters take in a mysterious French housekeeper, Babette, who prepares a spectacular banquet after winning the lottery. Based on the Isak Dinesen story, it was the first Danish film to win the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

Psychiatrist John Whipple and film critic Abby Olcese lead a post-screening discussion.

This event is co-sponsored by: Greater Kansas City and Topeka Psychoanalytic Center.
