A Guide to Kansas City-Area Farmers Markets

As temperatures grow warmer, heaps of local produce are piling up at Kansas City-area farmers markets.

The region is home to dozens of markets that host hundreds of local farmers and makers. After all, this is the heartland, the central hub of America’s agricultural industry.

Shoppers can find fresh produce, baked goods, flowers, homemade goods and crafts for anyone hoping to shop local.

Adding to the fun, many local markets offer live music, food trucks and kids activities to make it an exciting family outing.

No matter what part of the Kansas City area you’re in, here are over 15 farmers markets worth checking out.  

Note: Dates and times below are for the 2024 market season.


Blue Springs

The Blue Springs Farmers Market is moving to a new location in 2024. Find fresh produce, handcrafted goods, live music and local food trucks at the American Legion Stanley-Pack Post #499.  

When: 7 a.m. to noon Saturdays from April 6 through Oct. 26

Where: 499 SW State Route 7, Blue Springs

Bonner Springs

The Bonner Springs Farmers Market has a new home, of sorts. The city built a new pavilion at Centennial Park for rain-or-shine farmers market shopping. Find produce and other local goods, plus there’s frequently kids activities, live music and even yoga.

When: 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays from May through October

Where: Centennial Park, 206 E. Cedar St., Bonner Springs

Brookside

This isn’t a middle man market. Vendors at the Brookside Farmers Market are the ones growing, raising and making every product. Plus they all follow organic or natural grown standards, and everything sold is sourced within 125 miles of Kansas City.

The Brookside Farmers Market also operates year-round with an indoor winter market.

When: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays from April 13 through October; 9 a.m. to noon from November through March

City Market

City Market

Kansas City’s largest farmers market operates every weekend year-round, featuring dozens of vendors. Find produce, fresh breads, flowers, crafts and more from across the region.

While you’re at the farmers market, visit some of the local shops and restaurants at the City Market.

When: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends, April through October; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends, November to December and March; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday only in January and February

Gladstone

Located at the Atkins-Johnson Farm, the Gladstone Farmers Market is the only farmers market in the KC area on a working farm. 

When: 7 a.m. to noon Saturdays from May through October

Independence

Independence Market

The Independence Farmers' Market has a wide selection of locally grown meat and produce, sweets and treats, and handmade crafts, all of which have been grown or made within a 100-mile radius of Independence. 

The Independence Farmers Market also has an indoor market on the first Saturday of the month from December to April.

When: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays from May to October; 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays from June to August

Kansas City, Kansas

Stock up on local produce, fresh baked goods, homemade items and more at the KCK Farmers Market located in downtown KCK. 

When: 8 a.m. to noon, Saturdays from May through October

Where: The Merc Co+op parking lot, 501 Minnesota Ave., ​Kansas City, KS

Lawrence

The Lawrence Farmers Market is focused on local products. All products must be grown or made within 50 miles of the city. Held in downtown Lawrence, visitors can also enjoy kids activities, live music and more.

When: 7:30-11:30 a.m. Saturdays from April 13 to Nov. 23; 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays from May 7 to Oct. 29

Lee's Summit

With over 40 vendors, there’s something for everyone at the Downtown Lee’s Summit Farmers Market. Guests can find local produce, baked goods, fresh flowers, local food trucks and more.  

When: 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays and Wednesdays from April 13 to Nov. 2

Where: 2nd and Douglas streets, Lee’s Summit

Lenexa

Overland Park Farmers Market

Enjoy fresh produce, meat, flowers, body care products and more at the Lenexa Farmers Market. In 2024, there are even more new vendors, plus the market is offering composting once a month.

When: 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays from April 27 to Oct. 26; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays from May 28 to Aug. 27

Where: Lenexa Civic Campus parking garage, 17201 W. 87th St. Parkway, Lenexa

Liberty

The historic Downtown Liberty square is the perfect place to spend a morning shopping for local goods. The Liberty Farmers Market was recently voted the best of the Northland.  

When: 7 a.m. to noon Saturdays from May through October

Where: 1 Courthouse Square, Liberty

Merriam

Located in downtown Merriam, this farmers market has plenty of local produce, homemade goods and more. Plus guests can enjoy live music and kids activities on select weekends.

When: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays from May 4 through Sept. 28

Where: Merriam Marketplace, 5740 Merriam Drive, Merriam

Mission

Get some weeknight shopping done at the Mission Market, which features local produce, specialty foods and crafts. There’s also a beer and wine garden each week, plus food trucks and live music.

When: 4:30-8 p.m. Thursdays from June through August.

Where: 5635 Johnson Drive, Mission

Shawnee

Stock up on local produce, homemade crafts and more while enjoying local entertainment from Shawnee and the Kansas City area.

The city’s Moonlight Market also runs from 4-8 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month at City Hall. 

When: 7 a.m. to noon Saturdays from May 4 through Oct. 26

Olathe

Olathe has not just one but two farmers market locations running twice a week. Find a variety of produce, baked goods, flowers and plants, and more.

On certain dates, the downtown Olathe market will be held at Stagecoach Park instead.

When: 7:30 a.m. to sellout Saturdays from April 27 to Oct. 19 and Wednesdays from May 8 to Sept. 11

Overland Park

Overland Park Farmers Market

The popular Overland Park Farmers Market is getting even bigger in 2024, expanding beyond its pavilion and into nearby parking lots. Find fresh produce, local foods and unique specialty items.

When: 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays from April 20 to Sept. 28; 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays from Oct. 5 to Nov. 23; 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays from June 5 to Sept. 4

Parkville

Grab plenty of local produce and other goods while visiting the beautiful English Landing Park near the Missouri River.

When: 7 a.m. to noon Saturdays from April 27 to Oct. 26; noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays from June 12 to Sept. 11

Where: English Landing Park, 8701 McAfee St, Parkville
