The popularity of going out for weekend brunch in Kansas City has almost eliminated the interest in the simple weekday breakfast. But there is room for both of these meals to coexist.
Breakfast is quicker, more businesslike and centered around coffee. Brunch is more leisurely and social and can be a boozy way to slide into your weekend.
When Rye’s second location opened on the Country Club Plaza, Chefs Colby and Megan Garrelts added breakfast for the first time to their comforting Midwestern-inspired menu, along with a handsome new breakfast bar to sit at. Breakfast is Monday to Friday from 7 to 11 a.m. at this location only.
Enjoy traditional shrimp and grits, biscuits and gravy, buttermilk pancakes or house-smoked salmon on a bagel—or keep it simple with a cup of coffee paired and one of Megan’s famous cinnamon rolls.
Kansas City’s first Southern-inspired meat-and-three restaurant serves up weekend brunch until 3 p.m., full of meaty dishes that are hearty enough to tie you over until dinner. Try the 3 Meat Skillet with the chef’s famous thick and tender brisket, breakfast sausage and ham served on a bed of dirty rice, topped with cheddar cheese and country gravy and fried eggs.
Another can’t-miss specialty is the breakfast ribs, served with a Béarnaise sauce, pickled jalapeños and benne seeds. Snag a local beer or porch sippin’ cocktail and get the party started.
Kansas City’s favorite farm-to-table weekend brunch spot recently launched a brand-new weekday breakfast menu. Served Monday to Friday from 8 to 10:30 a.m., The Farmhouse offers comforting favorites like chicken fried steak and eggs with potato hash and country gravy, Bloom Bakery’s cinnamon raisin bread pudding French toast sticks and a build-your-own omelet.
Grab and go with a breakfast burrito or breakfast sandwich and a coffee if you are in a hurry.
One of KC’s favorite new fine dining restaurants takes its brunch menu just as serious as the dinner menu. Expect the unexpected with a local focus on quality ingredients.
Dishes such as pasta carbonara made with local duck eggs and pancetta; smoked whitefish tartine on local Ibis bread topped with hard boiled eggs; radish and charred scallion; and Shakshuka, a Moroccan tomato sauce with eggs, fresh cheese and naan all make the grade. The Antler Room’s selection of quality brunch worthy cocktails and amazing wine list will pair perfectly with any of the precision brunch plates.
This neighborhood bakery in East Brookside is a hangout for locals and families as a breakfast hot spot. Heirloom offers a build-your-own-biscuit sandwich that is hard to beat.
Breakfast and brunch are served 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Diners opting for the biscuit sandwich can pick three ingredients: egg, bacon, cheese, tomato, pesto and greens, all piled high on a house made biscuit. Switch it up with a piece of thick cut toast and a variety of toppings or get a cup of coffee and enjoy it with an adult version of a childhood favorite, a homemade pop-tart.
Located next to the Kansas City classic Gates Bar-B-Q on Main Street, The Russell lives up to the buzz for its Saturday brunch served from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The “outdoorsy” boys club décor created with tan, black and wood elevates the rustic brunch menu made up of wood-fired egg dishes, sandwiches and pastries.
Choose your own adventure from the brunch menu featuring a BLT sandwich dressed up with a fried egg and avocado, banana nut bread French toast and a grilled sausage and cheesy polenta dish.
