Kansas City Zoo

Itinerary – Young Kids in KC

In Kansas City, parents will find a destination full of kid-friendly sights, sounds and tastes, perfect for filling a day of fun and adventure.

Guide your experience with this itinerary for kids in KC:

Morning - Plaza Exploration

Donutology

The Country Club Plaza’s many attractions call for exploration both indoors and outdoors.

Yet before you hit the Plaza, start the morning in Westport with breakfast or a treat at Donutology, a unique shop, where children can customize miniature donut holes by choosing from more than 40,000 flavor combinations.

Nearby, interactive and traveling exhibits will wow kids thanks to the world’s largest collection of contemporary, fine-scale miniatures at The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures

Finally, head to the Plaza for some fountain exploring on the Plaza. KC isn’t nicknamed the City of Fountains for nothing. Track down some of the most memorable spouts in Kansas City for a fun way to get fresh air and exercise (and burn off some of the energy from the donuts).

Noon - Crown Center Creativity

Full afternoons can be spent with kids at the Kansas City Zoo and Worlds of Fun—and you can't go wrong with either destination. But if you’re looking to bop around place to place, Crown Center has what you need.

Young ones (ages 5-12) will love exploring their creative side at Kaleidoscope, an imaginative environment in provided by Hallmark Cards. The totally free studio environment lets kids create puzzles, draw stories, color animals and more, all fostering everyone’s inner artist.

LEGOLAND Discovery Center | XO Jasmine

For lunch, look no further than Spin! Neapolitan Pizza or Fritz’s Railroad Restaurant. The former serves up fun-sized pizzas and Italian-style gelato, meaning it's great for kids. The latter features burgers, fries and more, which arrive on model trains. No additional explanation necessary.

Round out your Crown Center experience at either LEGOLAND Discovery Center or Sea Life Aquarium, both of which transport kids into worlds of wonder.

Or, just across the street is Union Station, where you'll find the interactive Science City. Stargaze in the planetarium, explore the chemistry of cooking in the test kitchen and unearth dinosaur secrets in the Dino Lab and Dig Site, among many other interactive exhibits.

Evening - Final Treats

Betty Rae's Ice Cream | Derek Slagle

After a full day of fun, the best way to end your adventure is with a sweet treat. Try out ice cream from Betty Rae's or Christopher Elbow's Glacé.

If your kiddos still have some energy left to spare (and if the weather permits), take them to the Sculpture Park at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art to explore impressive works amid green landscapes.
